Since retiring to the desert nearly 3 years ago, I’ve been working to improve my golf game. Progress, though occuring, has been slow. Knowing my desire to improve, my wonderful wife purchased Mr. Pike’s book “Your Road to a Championship” as a birthday gift a little more than a month ago. Since finishing the book, I cannot adequately express how helpful Mr. Pike’s teachings have been for me! Over the last three weeks I find myself continually referencing and re-referencing his simple and very effective teachings and techniques. They’re having impact! For example, by following his step-by-step approach (including many pictures) around keys to a good swing (e.g., hand positions, pressure-points, feel/tension, set-up, backswing, hand/arm release or hinging, downswing, impact, etc.), I have already increased my drives 15-25 yards! I’m also finding improvement from his instructions around my irons, chipping, and putting. Though I’ve still much room for improvement, Mr. Pike’s very clear instructions are helping me better understand the principles of proper swing development. It’s very obvious from the personal anecdotes and experiences he shares–from those masters of his youth–that he himself has become a master teacher! I very highly recommend this book to anyone who wishes to improve their game!

I’ve played golf for about 40 years and, thanks to Jim’s book, now know exactly what causes the ball to do what it does. More important, how to fix the things I don’t want it to do. But the book goes far beyond that, giving a wealth of information on every aspect of the game in an easy-to-read manner. Jim’s personal experiences and anecdotes are entertaining and his positive outlook on life and the game he loves comes shining through. Thanks Jim, for giving an old man a fresh look at golf and providing belated improvement. What a boon your book would have been in my early years!

This is the best golf instruction book I have ever read. As a PGA pro myself, I was impressed not only with the mechanics that Mr. Pike presents, but also the playing of the game, its strategy and nuances, and all of the pieces that go into playing the game beyond swing mechanics. I particularly enjoyed the absolute simplicity and ease in which the swing mechanics are presented, and his chapters on course management and how to practice are spot on. This book is for beginners and pro’s alike and should be in every golfer’s library. Well done, Mr. Pike!
